OPP looking into suspicious incident in Tecumseh

Ontario Provincial Police are looking for a vehicle and driver suspected of attempting to speak with a teenager in Tecumseh.

The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the area of St. Thomas Street and Manning Road. A 13-year-old boy was walking in the area, when a vehicle pulled up next to him.

Constable Steven Duguay said the driver, who was the only person in the car, tried to talk to the teen, who did not engage and immediately went to find help.

The OPP would like to talk to a middle-aged man driving a dark grey Toyota sedan with a rusty trunk. The vehicle was described as having a round silver ornament hanging from the rearview mirror.

Police recommend that kids be on the lookout for suspicious activity at all times, along with walking in groups, carrying a cell phone for emergency use, and heading right to a public place if they feel uncomfortable. If a vehicle pulls up and the driver tries to speak to you, get away from it and try to get the description and the licence plate number.

Additional safety tips can be found on the Canadian Centre for Child Protection's official website.

Anyone with information on this incident, or who may have witnessed it, is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
