UPDATE: Canada-bound traffic moving again after Ambassador Bridge incident

The Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) says Canada-bound traffic is moving again after being shut down for over seven hours due to an incident at the Ambassador Bridge.

The CBSA announced that the Windsor port-of-entry reopened around 4:30 p.m. Monday, after a report of explosives in a vehicle was issued at the crossing's secondary inspection point.

Windsor police were alerted by the CBSA shortly before 9:30 a.m.

The area surrounding the bridge was evacuated and the bridge was shut down for traffic in both directions at first.  The CBSA reported shortly after 1 p.m. Monday that traffic into the United States had always been open for travelers.

Windsor police reported around 2:30 p.m. that the driver of the vehicle in question was detained and is in the custody of the CBSA. There do not appear to be others involved.

Regular traffic was rerouted to the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel while commercial traffic was told to reroute to the Sarnia Blue Water Bridge. Images from WXYZ-TV's news helicopter showed long lines of traffic stopped on downtown Detroit freeways that led to the bridge.

The Windsor Police Service remained on scene just before 5 p.m. to assist with traffic flow of vehicles entering Canada from the U.S. U.S.-bound traffic was always allowed to cross during the incident.
