Another class at the Catholic board dismissed

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board has confirmed that a class was sent home due to COVID-19 for the second time in as many days.

Board spokesman Stephen Fields said in an email to Blackburn News Wednesday night that one class was dismissed from Assumption College Catholic High School in Windsor due to a confirmed case of the virus involving a student.

The class was sent home and told not to report to school on Thursday. All other classes will run Thursday as usual.

Fields said the parents of all the affected students have been notified and told to stay home until the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit gives the all-clear.

Parents have been directed to monitor their kids for COVID-19 symptoms. If they show symptoms or feel ill, they should be kept home until given instructions from a health care provider.

As of Thursday night, the English Catholic board had five active cases affecting four school buildings. A fifth building, St. Joseph's Catholic High School in Windsor, is under outbreak protocol despite not having any current cases.

Meanwhile, at the Greater Essex County District School Board, one new case was reported Thursday at Sandwich West Public School. The English public board currently has 37 active student cases, plus two involving staff.

At the French Catholic school board, four classes are in isolation after eight cases were discovered at ecole elementaire Sainte Ursule in McGregor.
