The rain may soon taper off, but that has not stopped the Essex Region Conservation Authority from issuing flood watches along two areas of shoreline.
ERCA has upgraded the shoreline conditions statement for the Lake St. Clair shoreline. The flood watch area covers the shoreline from the City of Windsor to Stoney Point in the Municipality of Lakeshore.
"Winds are currently out of the north at sustained speeds of 45 kilometres per hour, with gusts up to 65 kilometres per hour," said ERCA Water Resource Manager Tian Martin. "Current forecasts predict these winds will continue at the above-noted speeds and shift slightly to out of the northwest overnight until early Thursday morning."
The Lake St. Clair flood watch is on until at least 6 a.m. Thursday. At that time, a flood watch for the Lake Erie shoreline and south Pelee Island will go into effect through 11 a.m. Friday. Environment Canada has predicted wind gusts from the south and south-southwest at 45 kilometres per hour.
