The Windsor Essex County Health Unit is partnering with Transit Windsor for mobile vaccine clinics.
A city bus will be used to transport nursing staff and vaccines to different parts of the city and Essex County.
The health unit will focus on high-priority areas where vaccination rates are lower compared to other areas of the region.
“We are excited about the potential of this partnership to deliver vaccines to areas with lower vaccination rates. Depending on the uptake, we are optimistic that this can be continued for the long-term,” said Chief Executive Officer Nicole Dupuis.
Right now this is a pilot project but more consistent schedules and routes could be established if the program is a success.
The first stops will be made in Windsor on Wednesday. The bus will be parked along University Avenue at the corner of Wellington and then travel to the Prince Road entrance of Mic Mac Park.
On Friday, the bus will be travelling to Leamington, exact locations have not been finalized.
Anyone born in 2009 or earlier is eligible for the vaccine. Vaccines are also available at Devonshire Mall from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Walk-ins or appointments are available at that site.
