Provincial police in Essex County say four people face over 50 charges after officers seized various types of illegal drugs and weapons during a search at a property in Leamington.
According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), members of the Community Street Crimes Unit, Canine Unit and West Region Emergency Response Team used a warrant to search a residence on Longfield Avenue in Leamington on Tuesday.
During the search, investigators seized differing quantities of illicit drugs such as methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl and cannabis. Officers also found a number of weapons including five firearms and a taser. An unspecified amount of Canadian money was also found during the search.
OPP estimated the total value of property and drugs seized at about $171,000.
As a result of the investigation, four people, all of Leamington, have been dealt a total of 54 charges.
A 27-year-old male faces 27 charges including obtaining or offering to obtain cannabis by any method or process, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, careless storage of a firearm or weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a weapon among several other drug-related charges.
A 37-year-old man, a 72-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman each face nine similar charges including one count of possession of a schedule I substance, multiple counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm and a weapon, careless storage and obtaining cannabis by any method or process.
The 27-year-old man was held in police custody pending a court hearing in Windsor, while the other three individuals are scheduled to appear in court on October 4.
