The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported 37 new cases of COVID-19 in the region on Tuesday.
Among the new cases, two are close-contacts of previously confirmed cases, three are community-acquired, and one case is travel-related. Case and contact management staff continue to investigate 31 of the instances.
There are 388 active cases in the community. Of those, 178 have been identified as a variant of concern. The health unit is now providing a day-to-day breakdown of variant cases in the community. The data shows a steady increase of Delta cases since mid-July.
Local hospitals are treating 12 patients who have tested positive for COVID-19. At least eight of them are unvaccinated.
The health unit is monitoring nine active outbreaks. There are eight workplace outbreaks and one community outbreak linked to a wedding. The outbreak at the Village at St. Clair that was declared last week has been rescinded.
To date, 71.1 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents aged 12 and older are fully vaccinated.
Throughout Ontario, there were 486 new cases identified. Of those 372 were among people who are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status.
The Windsor Essex County Health Unit does not currently report its cases by vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.
