Health officials in Windsor-Essex are urging people who may have attended a basketball tournament in Oshawa to get tested for COVID-19 after a confirmed outbreak was linked to the event.
On Monday, Dr. Wajid Ahmed, the medical officer of health with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) said anyone who went to the 43rd Annual Jane and Finch Classic basketball tournament at the Playground Global Facility in Oshawa should undergo a COVID-19 test as soon as possible.
According to Dr. Ahmed, between August 3-8 upwards of 7,000 people made up of teams and athletes from across the province were at the event. As a result, a number of confirmed cases in multiple jurisdictions have been reported and linked to the tournament.
Health officials in Durham Region said so far 20 positive cases have been reported in Quebec, Peel, Toronto, and Durham.
While no cases have been linked to the tournament in the Windsor-Essex area, WECHU health officials are asking anyone who was there to get a test even if they feel fine.
