Since March, staff at the mass vaccination clinic in Leamington has administered over 44,000 shots, but on Saturday, it will close for good.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit thanked staff at the clinic at the Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Centre on Thursday, while announcing the closure of the final mass vaccination clinic in the county.
"I would like to thank the staff of the Municipality of Leamington for their hard work and diligence, and I would like to thank the residents of Leamington for offering up the Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Centre," said the Chair of the health unit board of directors and Essex County Warden Gary McNamara. "Above all, I would like to thank the tens of thousands of residents who streamed into that facility to receive their shots -- If you haven't been vaccinated yet, it's not too late, and it's more important than ever given the rise of the Delta variant."
That leaves just one mass vaccination clinic left in Windsor-Essex. The one at the former Sears Store at Devonshire Mall in Windsor will remain open for the foreseeable future.
Residents can still get a shot at one of the pop-up clinics in the region, select pharmacies, or healthcare providers.
Those born in 2009 or earlier who want a vaccine, first or second, can walk into the mass clinic at the Sears store between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. without an appointment.
