Windsor police say a woman is facing several charges after a chain of events Tuesday morning.
The incident began around 7 a.m. on Tecumseh Road East near Princess Avenue. Officers responded to a call about a suspected impaired driver, according to Constable Darius Goze.
The driver of a silver Nissan Outback had left the scene before police got there. The vehicle was then seen going south on Rivard Avenue.
Goze said while officers were on Rivard looking for the vehicle, they came across a collision on Rose Street and Jos. St. Louis Avenue. Police determined that the same Nissan was involved in that crash, and the driver fled the scene.
The Nissan was then found abandoned further south on Jos. St. Louis Avenue, with damage reported to the front lawn of a home. The driver was seen running from the scene, but thanks to assistance from a K-9 officer, she was found hiding in the back yard of a home on Clemenceau Boulevard, one block east of where the vehicle was found.
The 30-year-old woman is charged with impaired driving by drug, refusal to provide a bodily sample, leaving the scene of a crash, driving while suspended, and using an unauthorized licence plate. These charges have not been proven in court.
