The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 44 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.

Among the new cases, 10 are close contacts of previously confirmed infections, six are community-acquired, and two are travel-related. Health unit staff continue to investigate 26 cases.

There are now 287 active infections in the community. Of those, 84 involve a variant of concern.

Local hospitals are treating seven people who have tested positive for COVID-19. Four of the seven patients are unvaccinated.

To date, 77.5 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents aged 12 and over have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 69.9 per cent are fully vaccinated.

The province reported 348 new cases of the virus on Tuesday.  It also added ten new deaths to the total, but six of those people had died months ago.  Their deaths were added today as part of an ongoing data cleanup.
