Just over four months after it opened, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit no longer has a need for the vaccine clinic in Amherstburg.
Nearly 39,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered through the site at the Libro Credit Union Centre since it opened on March 31, 2021. On Saturday, the health unit opted to close the clinic.
"A sincere thank you to Mayor DiCarlo, the Town of Amherstburg’s administration, and the staff who provided a safe and welcoming space for residents to receive their vaccination," said the health unit's chief executive, Nicole Dupuis. "We have heard on numerous occasions about how organized and efficient the operations were at the Libro Credit Union Centre and recognize how much effort and skill it takes to organize something of this magnitude."
Those still needing their first or second dose of the vaccine can book an appointment at Devonshire Mall in Windsor or Nature Fresh Centre in Leamington.
The health unit said it has fully vaccinated 68.3 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents.
