Davies has 30 years of experience in law enforcement, the past 25 in LaSalle. For the past six months, he has served as the town's Acting Chief of Police.

"After a thorough recruitment process, we are confident that Duncan Davies has the experience and expertise that the LaSalle Police Services Board was seeking," said Mayor Marc Bondy. "We are certain that he will serve the residents with the same commitment and professionalism he has demonstrated in his positions leading up to this point."

In 2000, Davies received an Honourable Mention for the National Police Award for Traffic Safety after he came up with the idea to provide local school children with reflective armbands to make them visible at night. He also received a Police Exemplary Service Medal from the Governor-General of Canada in 2017.

"For me, the policing profession goes beyond a job -- it is truly a calling, doing what is right and leading by example," he said. "I believe that it is essential for the right person to be in the right place at the right time to do the right thing for the right reason."

Davies started his new post on Monday.
