Local festivals to share over $560,000 in provincial funding

A total of eight local festivals and events will benefit from a significant funding announcement designed to help organizers relaunch activities safely.

Windsor-Essex's share of nearly $50-million announcement is $560,570.

The Reconnect Festivals and Event Program is a one-time financial shot in the arm from the province to ensure the long-term success of the festival and event industry. A total of 439 events across Ontario will share $43-million, and another $6-million will help municipalities and organizations host large-scale signature events meant to increase tourism.

The largest sum locally will go to the Lavender Festival in Lakeshore. It will get $98,680.

The other seven events that will get funding are:

* Front Road Family Day Extravaganza in LaSalle, which will receive $40,000

* the LiUNA Yunity Festival will receive $69,390

* WIFF Under the Stars can expect $94,575

* Winter Festival in Windsor has been awarded $66,025

* Leamington's Hogs for Hospice will receive $89,400

* The River Lights Open Air Winter Festival in Amherstburg's entitlement is $37,100

* Kingsville's You are My Sunshine event will get $65,400

The provincial government hopes the investment will result in over $1-billion in economic benefits across Ontario.
