Fake gun pointed at Windsor police officer

A Windsor man is facing charges after allegedly pointing a fake gun at a police officer on Saturday.

Around 9 p.m. Saturday, a patrol officer was driving in a marked police car on Tecumseh Road near McDougall Street. The officer drove into a parking lot and saw a man pointing what looked like a gun in the air.

According to Constable Talya Natyshak with the communications department, the man then pointed the gun in the officer's direction. The officer tried to arrest him by gunpoint, but the man took off.

The officer quickly caught up with the man and took physical control of him. Other officers arrived on the scene to help arrest the suspect, who continued to struggle with officers.

The officers found and seized the gun and some illicit drugs from the individual.

A 52-year-old is facing charges of assaulting an officer, possession of an imitation firearm and possessing crystal methamphetamine.

The Windsor police say they are aware of videos of the incident circulating on social media. They are encouraging anyone with video to come forward to provide evidence to the police.
