Ontario Provincial Police say a fourth beagle reported stolen almost two months ago has been found.
OPP Constable Steven Duguay said that the latest animal was recovered on Monday in the Devonwood Park area of Windsor.
No details were provided on the circumstances in which the dog was found, but the beagle was turned over to the Windsor-Essex County Humane Society. The dog was then given back to its owner.
This dog was among seven reported missing from a property on Lions Club Road in Lakeshore on June 5. The three remaining beagles are still missing, and there is concern for their well-being.
The dogs were previously the focus of a grassroots group that claimed that the animals were being abused. The group organized protests at the Lakeshore property and outside Windsor-Essex municipal buildings, calling for changes in kenneling and animal tethering regulations.
The Municipality of Lakeshore had confirmed that provincial animal welfare officers were called to investigate the allegations of abuse. There has been no public word on their findings.
This matter is still under investigation. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the remaining beagles is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or Crime Stoppers.
