Five new COVID-19 cases reported

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported five new COVID-19 infections in the region on Thursday.

Among the new cases, two were caught in the community, and one was in close contact with a previously confirmed case. Health Unit staff continue to investigate two cases.

There are now 24 active cases in the community. That's one less than Wednesday.

Local hospitals continue to be free of COVID-19 patients.

Across Ontario, 19,400 people were tested for the virus and 218 people tested positive.

To date,75.6 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents 12 and older have received one dose of a vaccine while 65.6 per cent are fully vaccinated. In Ontario, 80.1 per cent of residents 12 and older have received one jab and 67.9 per cent have been fully vaccinated.

Youth volunteers practice coastal conservation

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
