After charging five local residents with stunt driving in the last three days, the Essex County OPP is reminding residents of recent changes to the law.
As of July 1, 2021, on roads where the speed limit is posted at less than 80 km/hr, drivers caught at 40 km/hr or more are being charged with stunt driving. In addition, the vehicle will be impounded immediately for 14 days.
On Tuesday morning, a 24-year-old woman from Harrow was clocked driving 125 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone on County Road 2 West in the Town of Kingsville. Later that same day, a 19-year-old woman was clocked driving 110 km/h along the same stretch of road.
On Wednesday, a 19-year-old man from Leamington was clocked going 50 km/h over the posted speed limit of 50 km/h limit on Highway 77 in Leamington.
On Thursday morning charged a 21-year-old woman from Windsor after she was clocked driving more than 105 km/h in a posted 60 km/hr zone on Mesera Road 5 in Leamington.
Later, officers stopped a 21-year-old woman on County Road 18 in Leamington driving 100 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone.
