$100,000 donation for rehabilitation room at HDGH

Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare has unveiled a new rehabilitation room thanks to a $100,000 donation.

The room, located within the Dr. Y. Emara Centre for Healthy Aging and Mobility, will be known as the John Viecelli Rehabilitation Room.

"I've always wanted to see others happy, and I want to inspire individuals to share their blessings, to share the good, and help build the community," said Viecelli.

Viecelli knows a lot about building, having built many homes from Windsor to Sarnia over two decades.

He immigrated to Canada in 1950 at the age of 17 and within two years started his own company, John Viecelli Construction.

"I am just one individual, born in Northern Italy, who moved to Canada and worked hard. If we all gave what we could imagine the difference we could make," he said.

"Immigrants from around the world have played a key role in building our city," said Vice-President of External Affairs at Hotel Dieu Grace Healthcare Bill Marra. "So much of what we have, what we enjoy, what we take pride in, we do so because of individuals like John."

Viecelli and his wife, Lia, have made six-figure donations for local healthcare in the past. He plans to make more in the future as well.
