OPP officers among those assaulted in Lakeshore

Two Ontario Provincial Police officers are recovering after they were assaulted over the weekend while investigating a fight in Lakeshore.

Police were called to Westwood Drive in Belle River around 1:30 a.m. last Sunday. After the initial investigation, they arrested a 19-year-old suspect.

The suspect allegedly assaulted the officers during the arrest.  He is also accused of damaging the police cruiser once he was in custody.

The suspect now faces two counts of assaulting a police officer, two counts of mischief under $5,000, and assault.

The charges have not been proven in court. However, but the suspect is expected to appear before a Windsor judge on September 2.
