Caring for children went a little further thanks to a generous donation to Windsor Regional Hospital.
The hospital's foundation accepted a cheque for $236,109 Tuesday morning from WE Care for Kids, to help support the purchase of pediatric equipment for the hospital. The equipment will be used in the birthing centre, the neonatal intensive care unit, and the pediatric unit.
A Mini-C Arm, a specialized x-ray machine that allows doctors to view and fixate small bone and joint fractures in children, will be purchased with the funds. Other equipment will include six new baby bassinets, two infant isolette-warmers for the birthing centre, two isolettes in the neonatal ICU, and B-Braun syringe pumps and infant scales in the pediatric ward.
Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation Board President Beth Ann Prince is amazed by the tenacity of W.E. Care for Kids amid a pandemic.
"In this challenging year, WE Care for Kids has managed to once again exceed their goals and support the purchase of much-needed medical equipment for our community," said Prince. "We are grateful for their continued efforts to assist WRH in providing the best care possible to the children who require it."
With most of the large-scale fundraising events cancelled because of COVID-19, WE Care for Kids relied on small-scale donations, as well as teaming up with Windsor-Essex businesses.
"Their annual funding allows us to enhance and support the services we provide to families in our region," said WRH Vice-President of Surgery and Family Services Rosemary Petrakos. "It truly makes a difference when our medical staff can rely on the latest and best technologies to treat their patients. WE Care for Kids makes this possible. Thank you to all who support them."
