Third stolen beagle recovered in Windsor

Ontario Provincial Police say it is still looking for clues in the theft of beagles from a Lakeshore property, as another one was found.

A beagle was located on Wednesday in the City of Windsor, according to OPP Constable Steven Duguay. Two other dogs were recovered last month.

The recovery of the dog was the latest development in a situation that began in early June.

The OPP received a report of animals being stolen from a Lions Club Road property in the early morning hours of June 5.

The remaining four dogs are still missing, and police say there is concern over their welfare.

"Information is that one of the female beagles was pregnant and should have given birth to a litter, and there may be beagle puppies that are circulating as well," said Duguay in a media release.

The dogs were also the focus of efforts by a grassroots group that claimed that the animals were being abused. The Municipality of Lakeshore confirmed that provincial animal welfare officers were called to investigate, but there was no public word on their findings.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the beagles is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) to be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
