As the province prepares to move into Step 3 on Friday, Windsor's Medical Officer of Health reminds people the pandemic is not over.
"I feel comfortable looking at our data, looking at our vaccination rate, that we should have a safe reopening as long as people are mindful of the risks that are involved, and are taking the appropriate precautions," said the Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed.
Ahmed said even though the case rate is low, there is still a risk in the community to those who cannot be vaccinated.
"They need to be protected. They do not have any coverage, so whatever activities that you plan to do, make sure you are thinking about those people who cannot get the vaccine and children who are unvaccinated,' said Dr. Ahmed.
On Monday, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported one additional COVID-19 related death. A woman in her 70s who lived in a long-term care home passed away after contracting the virus.
The health unit also reported seven additional cases over the weekend. There are 23 active cases now, and six of them involve a variant of concern.
