LaSalle police say that a fire at a grade school Sunday was set on purpose.
Officers and LaSalle firefighters responded to LaSalle Public School at around 4 p.m., on a report about a fire burning on the school's primary grade playground area.
When emergency crews arrived, they noticed that a large pile of debris in the schoolyard was on fire. It was quickly put out, but the fire did cause minimal damage to the building's exterior.
"There was no damage reported to the interior of the school. Portions of the ceiling of the overhang had to be removed to ensure that there was no fire within," read a Facebook post from LaSalle police.
Police are asking the public for help in identifying anyone who may have been on school property Sunday afternoon. Anyone in the neighbourhood with a security camera system is asked to check the footage and notify police if they see something unusual.
Anyone with information should contact LaSalle police at (519) 969-5210. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
