ERCA issues watershed condition statement

With heavy rain in the forecast over the next 24 hours, the Essex Region Conservation Authority has issued a watershed condition statement.

"There is a concern for the accumulation of standing water in low-lying areas throughout the Essex region, especially adjacent to and within flood plain areas of all major waterways and shoreline areas," said Water Resources Engineer Tian Martin.

About 35 to 45 mm of rain is in the forecast for Wednesday evening and into Thursday morning. A watershed condition statement falls below the flood watch threshold but because of the high lake levels and forecasted rainfall, it will remain in effect until noon Thursday.

ERCA officials encourage people to take caution and avoid areas where flooding is occurring. The combination of slippery banks, waves, waves overtopping shoreline structures, and fast-moving water can be dangerous.
