Windsor-Essex reports 8 COVID-19 cases, new community outbreak

COVID-19 daily case counts in Windsor-Essex remain in the single digits.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) reported eight new cases on Saturday, up three from Friday's numbers.

The total caseload in Windsor-Essex since the pandemic began is now at 16,803. As of Saturday, there are currently 57 active cases in the region.

Another community outbreak in the region was reported by health officials on Saturday. The Downtown Mission is grappling with another outbreak. There are now two active outbreaks in the community after WECHU confirmed one at a manufacturing facility in Lakeshore on Friday.

Meanwhile, there were no new deaths reported on Sunday, with the death toll in the region remaining at 434.

As of Sunday, 409,445 doses of the vaccine have been administered to residents in Windsor-Essex.

Across Ontario, provincial health officials reported 346 new cases on Sunday, 13 more deaths. As of Friday night, the province had administered 13.8 million doses of the vaccine.
