WECHU reports 10 new COVID-19 cases

There were 10 new COVID-19 infections identified in Windsor-Essex on Thursday.

However, due to a recent data-clean up, there were no new cases added to the Windsor Essex County Health Unit’s total case count. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 16,790 cases of COVID-19 identified.

Among the new infections reported, two are close contacts of previously confirmed cases, two are community-acquired, and one case is related to travel outside of North America. The health unit continues to investigate five of the cases.

There are currently 55 active cases in the community and 15 of them have been identified as variants of concern.

Local hospitals are treating seven patients who have tested positive for COVID-19.

To date, 270,794 residents in Windsor Essex have been partially vaccinated. Of those 126,916 have been fully vaccinated.

Due to an increase in the vaccination coverage throughout the province, the provincial government has decided to move to Phase Two on the reopening framework two days early.
