Windsor-Essex sees single digit increase in COVID-19 cases

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported just eight new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, while active cases remained steady at 62.

The health unit said in the past 24 hours, three people were infected with the virus due to close contact with confirmed cases, while another two people acquired the virus from the community. Another case is related to travel to the US and the other two cases remain under investigation.

Of the 62 active cases in the region, 18 have been identified as COVID-19 variants of concern.

No new deaths were reported in the region on Sunday, keeping the COVID-19 death toll at 434.

A total of 16,781 cases of the virus have been detected in Windsor-Essex since the beginning of the pandemic.

The number of people who are being treated for the virus in local hospitals remained at nine. There is also currently one workplace outbreak in the region and one community outbreak.

A total of 157,257 residents in Windsor-Essex have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 111,223 residents have received both doses.
