The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported eight new cases of COVID-19 on Monday.
Among the new cases, four are close-contacts of previously confirmed cases, one case is community-acquired, and one case is related to travel outside of North America. The health unit continues to investigate two cases.
There are 109 active cases in the community and nearly half of them involve a variant of concern. Local hospitals are treating 14 patients with COVID-19 and three of them are being treated in the intensive care unit.
To date, 72.2 per cent of adults in Windsor-Essex have been partially vaccinated and 22.4 per cent have been fully vaccinated.
Currently, all residents aged 12 and over are eligible to receive a vaccination. Appointments can be made through the health unit’s booking system, at pharmacies, or through primary health care providers.
Residents 70 and older and individuals who received a dose of Moderna or Pfizer on or before April 18 can book an appointment for their second dose.
The provincial government has now changed the interval for those who received an Astra Zeneca vaccine. While the recommended time frame is 12 weeks between doses, residents can now get their second dose eight weeks after they receive their first dose.
