Three more COVID-19 related deaths in Windsor-Essex

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 11 new cases of COVID-19 and three more deaths connected to the virus.

A man in his 50s and two men in their 60s passed away recently after contracting COVID-19. There have been 431 deaths in Windsor-Essex connected to COVID-19 since March 2020.

Local hospitals are treating 19 patients who are positive for the virus. Among those patients, 17 are from Windsor-Essex and two have been transferred from other regions. There are nine COVID-19 positive patients in the intensive care unit.

There are 153 active cases in the community and 71 of them have been identified as variants of concern.

To date, 261,370 people have been given at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, 48,292 of them have been fully vaccinated.

All residents 12 years of age and older are currently eligible for the first dose of a vaccine. Residents 70 years of age and older and those who received their first dose in the month of March are eligible for their second dose. Appointments can be made through wevax.ca for one of the mass vaccination sites. Pharmacies and primary care providers are also administering vaccines.
