How you can help everyone enjoy Windsor-Essex trails

Have you noticed a problem on any of the region's trails? Specifically regarding how accessible they are? There is now a website to report it.

The Essex County Accessibility Advisory Committee and the Essex Region Conservation Authority want the public's feedback about Greenway trails.

The trails are designed for hiking, cycling, observing nature, and in some cases, horseback riding. Although they should meet provincial accessibility standards, committee chair Christine Easterbrook admits navigating public spaces can be more complicated for the disabled than the abled-bodied may realize.

Questions you might want to consider include, whether trails are wide enough for someone using a wheelchair or scooter and if there potholes or physical barriers like tree branches and roots. Are there washrooms accessible? And, are there enough spots to rest.

"Visiting trails and green spaces is just as vital to the health of those with disabilities as those without," said Committee Chair Christine Easterbrook.

Trail users can use an online form to report issues to the committee and the conservation authority at the same time.

Phase one of the WE Check the Trails project focuses on the conservation authority's 80 kilometres of trails, including the Cypher Systems Group Greenway, the Rotary Centennial Hub, and the Chrysler Canada Greenway.
