Vaccine clinics for youth in Lakeshore and Essex this week

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit is hosting two pop-up vaccine clinics this week for youth aged 12-17.

On Tuesday, June 1 in Belle River at the Atlas Tube Recreation Centre and on Thursday, June 3 in Essex at the Essex Centre Sports Complex, a pop-up clinic will be open to children and youth 12 to 17 years of age and any family member 18+ who needs their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. These pop-up clinics are for walk-ups only, no appointment is required. Both clinics will run from noon until 7 p.m.

Youth must be 12 years of age or older on the day of vaccination.

To date, around 6,200 youth have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Overall, 245,782 residents have been partially vaccinated. That represents around 70.5 per cent of adults in the region.

All residents aged 12 and older can also book an appointment for their first dose of a vaccine at any mass vaccination site or through a participating pharmacy.

Residents 80 and older who received their first vaccine dose over 28 days ago are now eligible to book their second vaccine appointment. Residents can book at any site and they will be able to receive either Pfizer or Moderna, according to what vaccine they received during the first round of vaccines.

“We do have plans to monitor the response from our seniors. Because we have information from their first doses, we will be reaching out to those that have not booked either by letter or phone call to make sure that they have the ability to book,” said CEO and Chief Nursing Officer Theresa Marentte.

The region also received additional doses of AstraZeneca vaccines this week and will be distributing them to participating pharmacies for second doses for people who received their first dose between March 10 and 19.

So far, 27,212 people in Windsor-Essex have been fully vaccinated.
