Students from two schools sent home due to COVID-19

The Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board has dismissed students from two schools after cases of COVID-19 were identified.

The school board reported 40 students from St. William Catholic Elementary School in Emeryville were sent home.  There were 29 students from one class and 11 students from a bus cohort identified as close-contacts.

Another 28 students from St. Pius Elementary School in Tecumseh were also sent home.

The cases were identified Friday afternoon and the affected students were told not to return to school on Monday.

"We have been working with the health unit by providing lists of students and staff who may have been directly affected. The health unit is contacting any individuals, both students and staff, who may have been affected, and will give directions for them to follow," said a news release from the school board.

Both schools remain open. If a family has not been contacted by the health unit, they have not been identified as close contacts and their children may continue to attend school as usual.
