Months-long child pornography probe leads to arrest

Windsor police have arrested a 33-year-old man following an extensive child pornography investigation.

The Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit began the probe in September 2020, after receiving a tip about a person who had allegedly been involved in child pornography offences. Constable Darius Goze said the investigation eventually identified a suspect.

Officers arrested a suspect without incident Monday morning in the area of Peter Street and Detroit Street.

Christopher Mears is charged with one count each of accessing child pornography, transmitting child pornography, and possession of child pornography. These charges have not been proven in court.

The ICE Unit does not believe that any local children were involved in the offences, but anyone with information that may help the investigation is asked to call Windsor police at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4896, or anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
