Windsor police say fatally wounded dog showed aggression

Windsor police have released more information about an investigation this week that resulted in a family pet getting shot, claiming the dog showed aggression towards officers.

Windsor Police Services said officers attended a home on Lynngrove Court around 11 a.m. Thursday to arrest an individual wanted for serious offences in another jurisdiction. During the investigation, police said a dog at the home became aggressive and charged towards officers while outside.

"At one point, an officer believed his safety was in jeopardy due to the dog lunging at them and attempting to bite them multiple times," read a release from Windsor police. "The officer responded to this by discharging their firearm."

According to the officers on duty, first aid was performed on the dog before they transported it to a veterinary clinic for surgery. The dog died during the operation.

Police said the wanted person was arrested at the scene. The identity of the individual nor the reason why they were wanted has been specified.

All of this comes one day after Diane Scott told her side of the story of the unexpected death of her dog Chloe.

Scott spoke to Blackburn News on Thursday about the incident, insisting that while the Doberman-Rottweiler mix looked intimidating, Chloe was a friendly family pet.

Scott explained she let the dog outside after hearing a knock at her front door, something she said she frequently did when visitors came by. She said she was unaware officers were in the backyard when she let Chloe outside, she also claimed she didn't know why police were looking for the man who was visiting with her son at the time of the incident.
