Windsor Regional Hospital is closing one of its COVID-19 assessment centres because fewer people are seeking tests.
The assessment centre at the Met Campus will close after its final scheduled tests on Friday. Anyone with a test scheduled after Friday will be contacted to have their appointment rescheduled.
According to Windsor Regional Hospital, fewer than 400 people a day are seeking tests between both assessment centres. It's expected same-day and next-day appointments will still be available.
The busiest day in 2021 for the Windsor Regional Hospital assessment centres was January 11, when 631 people were tested. The hospital has not done more than 500 daily tests since January 18.
Hospital officials say closing one of the assessment centres will allow them to dedicate more staff to the vaccine rollout.
Hours will be adjusted if testing demand increases. The assessment centre at the Ouellette Campus will remain open daily from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m.
