A combined effort from Windsor police and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has resulted in two people facing vehicle theft charges.
The incident began around 9 a.m. Friday at a business on Provincial Road near Cabana Road East. Officers responded to a report of a white 2005 Ford F-350 pickup truck stolen from the parking lot.
Around 3 a.m. Sunday, an officer with the Windsor police Amherstburg detachment spotted the vehicle speeding in the southbound lanes of Howard Avenue near North Townline Road. A vehicle stop was attempted, but the truck was driven toward Harrow, at which point, the OPP was notified.
Windsor police Constable Darius Goze said about a half-hour later, OPP officers spotted two men and a woman exiting the vehicle in the area of Howard Avenue and Cabana East. At that time, officers from both agencies began a search for the suspects, using a K-9 unit.
One of the male suspects was found at around 4:15 a.m. hiding in a backyard, and the woman was soon found outside a home. Both these suspects are charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000. The pair, who have not been identified, was released on an undertaking with a future court date.
The second male suspect is still at large.
