WECHU reports 24 new COVID-19 cases

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 24 new cases of COVID-19 in the region on Tuesday.

There have been 13,224 cases since March 2020, of which 12,576 are now considered resolved. There are 254 active cases in the community.

The health unit has identified 31 cases as COVID-19 variants. One case has been confirmed as the UK variant while the others are still under investigation.

A variant has been linked to outbreaks at the Downtown Mission and Victoria Manor. The health unit is currently monitoring 12 outbreaks in the community.

There are currently 39 people receiving treatment in local hospitals who have tested positive for the virus. Of those, 12 are in the intensive care unit.

A man in his 80s recently passed away after testing positive for COVID-19. He is the 394th person to pass away in Windsor-Essex after contracting the virus.

Youth volunteers practice coastal conservation

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
