According to the latest epidemiological study by the Windsor Essex County Health Unit, the region is on the cusp of hitting orange-level criteria.
But Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed indicated he has had no discussions with the province this week and does not expect to move from the red level on the province's COVID-19 Response Framework.
"We are not getting down to a clear orange or even lesser level case rates. We have seen some fluctuation, we have seen cases in the 10 then in the 14 but, we haven't seen that on a consistent basis," said Dr. Ahmed.
As of Thursday, the case rate over the last seven days was 39.3 cases for every 100,000 residents. About 2.5 per cent of people tested are positive for the virus.
On Friday, the health unit reported 29 new cases of COVID-19 in the region. Among the new cases, two are outbreak-related, 11 are close-contacts of confirmed cases, seven are community-acquired and nine cases are still under investigation.
The health unit also reported another three deaths linked to COVID-19. A man in his 60s, a man in his 70s and a woman in her 80s passed away after testing positive for the virus. There have been 392 deaths in the region linked to the virus. That's about 3 per cent of all cases.
Local hospitals are treating 46 patients with COVID-19. Of those, 10 are in the intensive care unit.
There are 235 active cases of the virus in Windsor-Essex.
