Windsor Police have made an arrest in the city's first homicide of 2021.
On Friday, a Problem Oriented Policing Unit officer located the suspect around Erie Street West and Ouellette Avenue. He was arrested without incident.
33 year-old Leon Quesnel from Windsor was charged with first degree murder. He was also charged with possession of a scheduled substance that police identified to be fentanyl.
Windsor police were first called to a home in the area of Louis Avenue and Cataraqui Street at around 2 p.m. on February 23. When officers arrived, they found a deceased man inside.
With the circumstances surrounding the death unknown, the Major Crimes Unit was called in to process the scene and investigate further.
The deceased has now been identified as 55 year-old Lamont Rhue from Windsor.
The investigation is still ongoing, and police continue to ask the public for information. Residents and businesses in the neighbourhood are being asked to check security camera footage for anything unusual that occurred between 2 p. on February 22 and 2 p.m. on February 23.
They are also asking that anyone who had contact with the victim on or before February 23 call police.
