Information still sought on fatal Windsor fire

The cause of a fatal fire on Church Street in Windsor remains a mystery.

Firefighters were called to a multi-unit building around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 7 after a fire broke out in a lower-level apartment.

Two people were rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, and one of them, a 59-year-old man, passed away.  The second victim, a woman, remains in hospital.

The Windsor Police Major Crimes Unit and Arson Unit continue to investigate the cause of the fire, which caused about $225,000 in damage.

Investigators ask anyone with a home or business in the area of Pelissier Street to Janette Avenue, and Riverside Drive West to Elliott Street West, who has a security camera to check the footage for suspicious activity or people between 8 p.m. February 7 and  9 a.m. February 8.

Anyone with information should call Windsor Police Services at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4830, or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
