Board approves design of new Kingsville school

It still needs the Ministry of Education to sign off on it, but the Greater Essex County District School Board has approved the design of a new school in Kingsville.

The public school board showed off the design for the K-12 school in a virtual public meeting last month. The school will go up on a 25-acre parcel of land near the Kingsville Arena east of Jasperson Lane.

Once the provincial government approves the design, the next step is to hire a general contractor and start construction. The board has not announced a timeline but has said construction should take two years.

In 2016, the provincial government said it would provide a grant for $44-million toward the build.

When it is complete, the new school will replace Kingsville District High School, Kingsville Public School and Jack Miner Public School. It will have enough room to accommodate 1798 students.

The plans include a new childcare centre.
