Windsor assault suspect arrested after standoff

A 46-year-old Windsor man is facing charges after holding police at bay for several hours Wednesday.

Officers were called shortly after 2 p.m. to a home on Chatham Street East near Louis Avenue for an assault complaint. It was determined that the suspect had assaulted a person he knew and was inside the house, refusing to come out.

The residence was contained by the Emergency Services Unit and the situation went on for about seven-and-a-half hours. Constable Talya Natyshak said the suspect was arrested inside the home around 9:45 p.m.

The man, whom police are not identifying to protect the identity of the victims, has been charged with assault, plus two counts of uttering threats. The charges have not been proven in court.

Police thank the community for its patience as the matter was being resolved.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information should call Windsor police at (591) 255-6700, ext. 4830, or Crime Stoppers.
