Damage estimate in fatal Church Street fire

A fire in Windsor's downtown core that killed one person has caused $225,000 in damage.

Windsor Fire and Rescue provided an update via Twitter on Wednesday evening on the investigation into the Sunday night fire at a home on Church Street near Park Street West. The fire service and the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office have ended their investigation, though Windsor police are still looking into what happened.

The fire started in the lower-level apartment, according to Windsor Fire, though the cause is still to be determined.

A 59-year-old man died in the fire. Officials had reported earlier Tuesday that a second person had passed away. This was later corrected, as the second person is still being treated for injuries.
