The University of Windsor plans to establish a new scholarship to support Black students this fall, but first, a fundraising campaign needs to raise a substantial amount of cash.
The university said it would match the first $125,000 donated to the campaign that will be launched this month to celebrate Black History Month. That would raise $250,000 for the scholarship.
It is part of the university's effort to address anti-Black racism, and the scholarship will be open to those entering and continuing studies in both graduate and undergraduate programs. The recipients will be chosen by a student awards committee.
"These funds provide supports for equitable access to education," said Acting Director of Advancement, Gemma Grey-Hall.
The University of Windsor offers 190 programs.
Interested students can apply for the scholarship through the Office of Student Awards and Financial Aid.
