A Windsor-Essex member of the Ontario Legislature has been named to a key position within the NDP caucus.
Essex MPP Taras Natyshak is now the Opposition Critic for Job Creation and Economic Recovery. His primary responsibility will be to monitor the Ford government's employment and economic policies and respond with the NDP point of view.
Natyshak said he will use his new role to draw attention to jobs and economic development in places like Windsor-Essex, which is heavily dependent on manufacturing and agri-business. He said the region's economic issues had been ongoing for years before the COVID-19 pandemic threw the economy into turmoil.
"The government has a critical role to play to get our economy working for Ontario families," said Natyshak in a media release. "Even before the pandemic, too many Ontarians were being left behind in the Doug Ford economy."
Natyshak will become an advocate for a Save Main Street plan, which will help small businesses recover from the effects of the pandemic.
"Workers across this province need new, good jobs with benefits and pensions to support their families, and a government that will stand up for them," said Natyshak. "In this new role I will be holding this government accountable and along with my Ontario NDP colleagues building a plan to rebuild our economy, in the aftermath of the COVID-19, to make it stronger and more inclusive than ever."
The MPP will continue to act as the NDP Critic for Ethics and Accountability.
