Health unit issues overdose alert

A reminder that while the pandemic is causing its issues, the opioid crisis in Windsor continues.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit's surveillance and monitoring system report 22 fentanyl-related visits to local emergency departments between January 27 and February 3. Of those, 16 were overdoses.

Based on historical data, these numbers are "extremely high and warrant a community alert."

Anyone aware of any links between the latest cases should contact the health unit.

The last alert was issued on January 23. It reported nine fentanyl-related emergency department visits, and seven overdoses involving fentanyl, carfentanil, and methamphetamine.
