Windsor Essex continues to see positive trends in COVID-19 cases in the community.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed said the trends continue to decline because people are following the public health measures and staying home.
“Overall, I’m not surprised but obviously it means that we want people to continue to follow these measures. It’s not a situation that you only follow measures when there are high case rates in the community. When there are low cases in the community you follow these measures to keep it low,” said Dr. Ahmed.
On Friday, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 41 new cases of COVID-19 in the region. The health unit is monitoring 405 active cases.
Two more people, a woman in her 80s and a man in his 90s who lived in the general community, have died after contracting the virus. To date, 336 people, or 2.7 per cent of all COVID-19 cases, have died after contracting the virus.
Overall, case rates are down and the number of tests coming back positive for the virus is also down considerably. For the week ending January 30, 4.5 per cent of the 9,444 tests completed were positive for COVID-19.
Residents are now getting their test results back quicker. About 60 per cent of tests came back within one day and 95 per cent came back within 2 days. This is the quickest turnaround time the region has experienced since the beginning of the pandemic.
