Ten employees at the Windsor International Airport have been given layoff notices due to the ongoing study of the air traffic control tower.
NAV Canada announced in November it would be reviewing air traffic at the Windsor airport along with five other airports in Canada.
As per the collective agreement currently in place, employees must be given six months notice before they are laid off.
Nav Canada confirmed the study is still ongoing and the outcome has not been determined. In the event the study does not support a change, the layoff notices will be rescinded.
Since the study was announced, Windsor-West MP Brian Masse and Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens have been advocating for the Windsor International Airport to be removed from the list of airports under investigation.
Both argue that just being part of the study creates uncertainty Windsor International Airport can’t afford as the airport tries to recover from the current landscape created by COVID-19.
