The Medical Officer of health for Windsor Essex is hopeful the region has made a turnaround.
On Thursday morning, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported 101 new cases of COVID-19 in the region, and three additional deaths connected to the virus.
“We are making progress now, little by little, with respect to the number of daily cases,” said Dr. Wajid Ahmed. “We have seen significant fluctuation in the last week, but the seven-day moving average is also showing a slight improvement of cases in our region.”
Dr. Ahmed said the numbers are going down because of the community’s efforts to follow public health measures.
“When it comes to following public health measures, that is critical. We have to do it. It doesn’t matter whether someone is vaccinated, whether someone is an essential worker, or whoever they are, we all have to do our part to make sure that we are all still doing everything we are asked to.”
There are currently 2,216 active cases in the community. Of those, 110 are being treated in the hospital and 16 are in the intensive care unit. There are another 167 suspected cases of COVID-19 in the hospital.
